When my family and I arrived at Boardwalk Cafe we were greeted by the owner and her daughter with friendly smiles, a lovely difference to the last experience my family and I had with the service at Fish Galore. The owner was happy to chat in between serving customers, and what a relief to know she also has Coeliac Disease! Absolutely no need to worry about cross-contamination here!
As usual, I ordered everything battered. Boardwalk uses G&C Crispy Gluten Free batter because of its lower oil absorption, crispy texture and suitability for most allergy sufferers. Boardwalk sells the batter mix to the public, as well as a range of other gluten free treats and products as seen above.
Almost all battered foods are cooked with the gluten free batter and in a dedicated gluten free fryer. Nothing was dripping in oil or even in need of ‘blotting’ due to the special batter and use of rice bran oil. My family were pleased with their gluten free meal and commented on the absence of a ‘heavy stomach feeling’ which is usually present after fish and chips. Boardwalk’s fish & chips taste like a light and healthier approach to fish and chips; a very satisfying difference.
